Rear in Gear

YTV Coach Callous

Get your rear in gear!

Being active isn't about flexing your finger muscles at the computer, or power-walking from the TV to the fridge! It's not about shooting one game of hoops and then calling it quits for the season. Getting your "Rear in Gear" is about moving, shaking, running, jumping, and most importantly, having a blast while you're at it! Want to get started? Surf the site for info and motivation—then step away from the computer and GET YOUR REAR IN GEAR!

Meet Coach Callous!

Nobody is safe from Coach Callous, a 1970s-styled boot-camp gym teacher, who bases his regiment on the importance of building strength, co-ordination and flexibility, all while having fun. Played by Carlos, host of The Zone, viewers are familiar with Callous' key mantra "Get your rear in gear!"

YMCA Healthy Tips

  • Before you make a beeline for the burger & fries, think about munching on something good for you!
  • Get up and dance during the opening credits of every TV show you watch!
  • Kick it with your friends! Kickball is a super fun game that everyone can play!
  • Sign up for after-school sports! Soccer, basketball, track & field… it's fun to be part of a team!
  • Take a spin around the block on your bike! It's "wheely" fun, and you can do it alone or with friends!
  • Get trampo-LEAN! Track down a trampoline, whether in a friend's backyard or at the YMCA, and jump!
