01 - Hindsight - Part I
It’s been some time since the devastating explosion at the Xavier Institute. The X-Men have gone their separate ways after the mysterious disappearance of their beloved leader, Professor X. The MRD are stepping up the anti-mutant security backed by local politicians. Logan has turned his back on the team and the high profile life as an X-Man. These feelings change abruptly after saving a small child from a burning train wreck only to be turned in to the MRD. Logan narrowly escapes his captors but the family that gave him refuge in their home were not so lucky. The family including their young child is whisked away in an MD chopper. It’s then that Logan realizes what the world has become without the X-Men to stand up for the rights of mutants and human beings everywhere. Logan goes back to the crumbled Institute to find Beast. Together they locate the family at a nearby MRD facility and bust them out along with a number of detained mutants. Logan knows that it’s time to bring back the X-Men.
02 - Hindsight - Part II
Logan and Beast are trying to pull the X-Men back together. Scott Summers is severely depressed by the disappearance of Jean Grey during the Mansion explosion and not willing to join the team. They find Bobby and Kitty who are thrilled to see them and excited about the reunion. Logan finds Rogue but she feels so abandoned by the teams initial split that she’s not about to join up with Logan again only to endure the same heartbreak. Instead she falls in with the conniving Brotherhood clan who end up using her to set up the X-Men. Rogue is encouraged by the Brotherhood to siphon information on Senator Kelly with her powers from Warren Worthington Sr. while his son and friend to the X-Men Warren Jr. watches in sad dismay. The Brotherhood’s plan goes off without a hitch and the X-Men are blamed for sabotaging Senator Kelly’s conference, which leads directly to his implementation of the Mutant Registration Act. The hardest part for the X-Men is knowing that Rogue set them up.
03 - Hindsight - Part III
Emma Frost shows up to the newly re-built X-Mansion wanting to help the X-Men find Professor X. Wolverine is untrusting of her but desperate to find Xavier and has Forge finish re-building Cerebro so that she can use her telepathic powers to locate him. It doesn’t take long before Emma has him placed on the Island of Genosha, home of the evil Magneto. The team heads out to Genosha to bring him home. Scott hears the news and feels there is finally some hope with a telepath on the team and joins the crusade. Magneto finds the X-Men in his palace and after a small battle of egos he surprisingly allows them to bring the comatose Xavier back with them. Professor X is soon safe and sound in the Cerebral Chamber. He contacts the Wolverine telepathically from the future, describing a world of nightmare. His apocalyptic prophesy proclaims that he must reunite the X-Men to fight against the impending war and that it is Wolverine who will be their leader.
04 - Overflow
Charles Xavier contacts Logan from the future and explains that in his world the entire African continent has been destroyed by the hand of Storm. The X-Men must find Storm immediately to save Africa form the inevitable destruction. Emma locates Storm with Cerebro and the team set out in the X-Jet for Africa. It’s almost too late. When they arrive on the scene Storm is under the mind tricks of the Shadow King and has flooded her own village. As the rains pour down, Emma telepathically gets into Storm’s head to defeat the Shadow King. Close call. Rains calmed, Storm leaves with the X-Men knowing that her place is with them and she and her people are only alive because of Xavier’s warning from the future. She must do her part to make the future worth living for.
05 - Thieves Gambit
Senator Kelly wants to get his hands on an Inhibitor Collar that the X-Men have been using to help mutants who can’t quite control their powers and he’s hired Zane to get it for him. Zane in turn has gone to the Thieves Guild to hire the best thief. Gambit agrees to take on the task for a handsome fee. He successfully snares the collar and hands over to Zane. But when Wolverine finds out Gambit is behind the theft he decides to use his greedy nature against him and offers double to steal the collar back. Gambit agrees and heads off with Wolverine to get it. They end up at the Trask Lab, where Bolivor Trask, MRD gadget man has been given the responsibility of reverse-engineering the collar for Kelly. Through much chaos they get the collar, but greedy Gambit turns on Wolverine again. With his own trickery, Wolverine victoriously brings the collar back to the mansion. Their technology is safe for the time being.
06 - X-Calibre
Nightcrawler has secretly boarded the Avalon, a transport ship making lucrative business of transporting mutants to Genosha for a hefty fee. He wants to ensure a safe passage for a small group of mutants. Once at sea, the Avalon encounters the Wildways, a pirate ship of Reavers looking to collect mutants as gladiators for their boss’ games and amusement. They are vicious in their attack and take a handful of mutants with mature powers, leaving the children behind on the sinking ship. The abusive crew and captain are long gone in the only lifeboat. Nightcrawler gets the kids to use their individual powers to work together and fix the ship. The revived Avalon Captained by Nightcrawler takes off after the Wildways to successfully save the captured mutants. The X-Men show up in the X-Jet just as the Wildways sinks back into the ocean. Nightcrawler is excited the team is back together but decides to finish his journey to Genosha with the mutants before returning to the X-Mansion.
07 - Wolverine Vs. The Hulk
Wolverine is blackmailed by S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury to help track down the Hulk; who is out of control and tearing up towns in northern Canada. He agrees only to keep the identities of his fellow X-Men from getting into the hands of the wrong people. The Hulk finds Wolverine in no time and they battle it out until Wolverine manages to subdue Hulk, who when calmed turns back into Bruce Banner. Wolverine learns from Banner that he himself was dropped into the wilderness by S.H.I.E.L.D. to stop the rampage of a hiker who somehow magically fell under a mystical curse that turned him into a monster. Together they set out to stop the monster with Banner’s serum only to find out that there are four vicious beasts after them not one. But somehow S.H.I.E.L.D. seems to be up to something else...
08 - Time Bomb
Nitro, a young mutant turns himself into the MRD because he can’t control his explosive powers. Toad, who is also in MRD custody convinces the Brotherhood to bust him out and to take Nitro too. The Brotherhood use Nitro against his will to blow up the MRD bunker where all the data on every registered mutant is kept. Nitro explodes leveling the bunker and the Brotherhood barely make it out on time. They realize Nitro is a actually a danger to them and decide to take him to Genosha. Psylocke uses her psychic abilities to keep Nitro powered-down. But having been alerted from the future by Xavier that Nitro would wipe out half the world’s mutants with his uncontrollable powers, Wolverine and the X-Men go after him. They manage to convince the Brotherhood that they’re taking him back to the MRD facility where he will be safe from himself and others. Wolverine doesn’t like turning in a fellow mutant but knows it was the best thing for everyone, including Nitro.
09 - Future X
Wolverine contacts future Xavier to ask if he knows anything about “Master Mold”, something he’d seen at the Trask Lab. Suddenly, giant Sentinels find his hiding place in the ruble of the old X-Mansion. They take him and the entire Cerebro Chamber to their facility. In the prisonner’s yard there are many other mutants are being held powerless by Inhibitor Collars. The other mutants are impressed and have heard about him from Wolverine who trained them as his X-Men. Xavier asks for their help to get back the Cerebro, explaining its power to locate and track mutants all over the world. Without it he cannot communicate the past, their only hope at stopping this war before it starts. They find that the Sentinels are using captive mutants to mechanically reproduce their powers under the direction of Master Mold. The mutants work together to escape with Xavier and part of the Cerebro. Xavier manages to power-up the Cerebro enough to warn Wolverine that he must stop the construction of Master Mold before it starts.
10 - Greetings From Genosha
Nightcrawler arrives on Genosha’s shores with his fellow mutants after a long journey at sea. Wanda, the Scarlet Witch and daughter to Magneto shows Nightcrawler around the seemingly perfect island. He is amazed at how mutants are out in public using their powers unbothered. But despite the perfection he sees, he feels that there is something not right. Dust, a young mutant tips him off and Nightcrawler finds and underground prison with hundreds of occupied cells. Magneto is sorely disappointed in Nightcrawler’s snooping and is determined not to let him contact the X-Men. But Nightcrawler is tenacious and manages to teleport himself across the sea ending up at the X-Mansion. Exhausted, he warns Logan of the Genosha prisons and that they must stop Magneto. Sadly it’s the shape-shifting Mystique he informs and in her Logan disguise she knocks Nightcrawler out and contacts her boss, Magneto who is preparing a special cell just for him.
11 - Past Discretions
Logan is haunted by a memory of a burning barn and a young girl who sees him standing over the lifeless body of her father. Deep in the wilderness, unbeknownst to him, Wolverine has been spotted and identified as “Weapon X” at a mystery base and a pursuant is sent after him. Wolverine finds the cabin from his past and is trying to retrieve his memories when the girl from his memory, now grown up sees him and is furious. Wolverine begins to explain that his memory had been wiped when Sabretooth arrives at the cabin. His appearance brings back some of the missing pieces and Sabretooth arrogantly fills in the blanks. Shaken from the memories he fills with rage and lunges at Sabretooth, pushing him over a plateau. The girl realizes that Wolverine is not the man she thought he was and they share a moment of forgiveness.
12 - eXcessive Force
Scott is determined to find Jean Grey and thinks Sinister is behind it. He bags one of his henchmen hoping to strongarm him into revealing where she is. Emma scans his mind and breaks it to Scott that he doesn’t know. But Scott’s not buying it, he’s sure the crazy scientist has Jean and is still bent on creating his genetically engineered Ultimate Mutant. Scott follows another of Sinister’s bullies back to his lab. A messy battle ensues destroying the lab and sprawls out into the street where Cyclops tails Arclight in a motorcycle chase. Finally Arclight admits to Scott that Sinister has Jean. Just moments later the rest of X-Men arrive on the scene. Emma reads Arclights’s mind realizing that Scott is headed right into a trap. Somewhere else, in an undisclosed hospital Jean Grey is awaking from a long sleep. But she has no idea who she is…
13 - Battle Lines
Rogue finds out that Quicksilver is Magneto’s son and that the Brotherhood are working directly for him, plotting to attack the X-Men. She races back to the X-Mansion to warn Logan. He doesn’t trust her even though Rogue insists it was part of her plan to get to the Brotherhood from the inside. They didn’t realize until it was too late was that Magneto’s plan was to keep the X-Men busy while he attacked the MRD bases; releasing the most powerful mutants on Earth. Kelly uses Magneto’s terrifying MRD takeover as a launch for his all-new Sentinel program, knowing that a scared population will endorse his anti-mutant campaign. Magneto in turn uses the release of the mutants to build hatred towards the humans that have been harboring these mutants as weapons. It feels the future war that Xavier forewarned of is close at hand.
14 - Stolen Lives
Logan receives a mysterious call warning that Christy Nord is in trouble. He arrives too late; Christy is missing. Mystique approaches a surprised Logan, admitting that she’s the one that called him and might know where Weapon X may have taken her. Wolverine is surprised by Mystique’s drive and knowledge of Weapon X and he questions her motives. She reveals that she was once known as Raven and was part of Weapon X and it was only because the man she loved sacrificed himself that she escaped. Wolverine is having his own flashbacks from his unbearable years as an experiment for Weapon X. Worse yet he runs into the Professor from his nightmares his new female Wolverine-type experiment, X-23. They manage to flee with Christy before the facility goes up in flames. As Logan watches it burn his memory is sparked and he finally remembers Raven from his past...
15 - Hunting Grounds
Nightcrawler who is already a captive on Genosha is kidnapped along with Wanda. They have been taken by Spiral to Mojo’s “Hunting Grounds”, an underwater dome where the aim of the game is to stay alive. Nightcrawler and Wanda are playing for their lives as they dodge and dash their deadly opponents, the Reavers. Nightcrawler is almost feeling the gentlemanly hero until Mojo releases his ‘guest hunter’, Wolverine who has been kidnapped, brainwashed and forced to play against the pair. Their only chance for survival is to somehow remove the mind-controlling cybernetic headgear he has on. Nightcrawler releases Wolverine from Mojo’s mental grasp but only as the dome fills with water. They confront Mojo who cowers at their powers. Magneto doesn’t want to let Nightcrawler and Wolverine leave Genosha for fear they will tell the world’s mutants about the prisoners he has there, but Wanda insists. She is sad to see Nightcrawler, her hero go.
16 - Badlands
Wolverine is bent on finding out what Master Mold is. He, Shadowcat and Forge sneak into the Trask lab for a little recon. Before Forge can download all the data MRD officers spot them. Wolverine is captured and Forge arrested. It’s up to Shadowcat to rescue them both. Twenty years in the future Professor X and his team are being stalked by eerie Wolverine-like Sentinels with vicious claws who can even repair their own wounds. The future X-Men and Xavier flee into the Badlands, with the Sentinels in hot pursuit. Professor X is pulled into the middle of the wasteland where he finds Magneto’s daughter, now known as Polaris at a sandy dune that was once Genosha. She is ready to slay Xavier on the spot, believing that his rivalry with her father is what caused this war and led to his death. Her hatred has been brooding for a long time. Back in present day, Future X tells Logan of the eerie Sentinels and he understands the impact of his capture at the Trask Lab and how his actions today will change their future.
17 - Code of Conduct
Logan arrives back to the X-Mansion one evening to find Rogue tied to a chair and the rest of the X-Men kidnapped. He can smell the scent of the ninjas that took his friends. Immediately he knows Harada, the Silver Samurai is behind the kidnapping. Logan is the only person that ever beat the Silver Samurai and now he must fight Logan to the death to regain his immaculate reputation. Logan and Rogue find Mariko at the Japanese Embassy where she reveals the location of his friends only in order to stop the fighting. But as they are mid-rescue effort, Harada and his clan take Rogue and tell Logan to return tomorrow for the fight. Just as Logan is about to defeat the Silver Samurai, Harada goes against the Code of the Clan and uses his mutant powers to try and take out Logan. He can’t help question Mariko for her decision to marry Harada instead of him all those years ago. Logan knows in his heart she is right and can finally come to peace with her decision.
18 - Backlash
Forge has managed to break the code of the Sentinel data they stole from the Trask Lab and reports that Master Mold is an AI computer that operates all of the city’s Sentinels and appears to be same Master Mold Xavier is battling in the future. The timing couldn’t be worse, Senator Kelly has been given the green light for project Wideawake; his mutant registration program that is actively using the Sentinels. The X-Men find Master Mold’s location and head out to stop the future war by destroying it. But the location is a set-up from the AI mind of Master Mold itself and they walk right into a warehouse full of activated Sentinels! Surprisingly the Brotherhood show-up to save the X-Men from the devastating Sentinels. Together the Brotherhood and the X-Men shut down all the Sentinels and the Master Mold… or so they thought. When Wolverine reports back to Xavier in the future nothing has changed. The Master Mold must have somehow survived…
19 - Guardian Angel
Warren Worthington Jr. has been helping fellow mutants despite his father’s participation in Senator Kelly’s anti-mutant campaigns. At Worthington Sr.’s request, Col. Moss and his team hunt down and capture Angel with brute force. Many bones are broken and his wings will need expert surgery to be salvaged. Worthington Sr. makes a decision to save his son’s life, but not his wings. Waking from the medication, Angel discovers that his wings have been removed and is completely devastated and enraged. Sinister visits Angel and offers to give him his wings back. The X-Men strongly advise Angel to forget about Sinister and his hollow, evil promises. Against his better judgment he goes to Sinister, and with new mechanical wings and Sinister’s wicked mind-control Angel becomes the infernal Archangel. Armed with a fierce vengeance he storms his father’s Pharmaceutical company that is working on a ‘cure’ for mutants.
20 - Breakdown
Cyclops is mid-fight with the X-Men when he sees Jean in the background. Or thinks he sees her. Distracted by his vision he gets pummeled. He wakes up in the infirmary to learn that the enemy got away and his team ended up in pretty bad shape as well. As long as he is obsessing over Jean he cannot be the team member they need him to be. Emma offers to erase all memories of Jean from his brain so that he can focus on the X-Men. He is unsure, but agrees to let Emma browse through his thoughts. She sees the tumultuous life Scott had as a young mutant; his first encounters with the young Jean and the blossoming of his love for her. But as Emma goes through their last moments together before the explosion Scott notices something he didn’t before. Both stunned to realize that it was Jean who caused the devastating explosion! They see the blinding light burst forth from her body as she rises into the sky in the form of a Phoenix!
21 - Rover
In the future Professor X is trying to learn of the specific event that lead up to the war so Logan can try and stop them in the present. Bishop suggests they sneak into the original heavily-guarded housing facility of Master Mold to collect the data storage from its last upgrade. Bishop suggests Rover, an old model Sentinel that has been accompanying them since the Badlands. Once inside the facility they find the data storage core just as the exits seal shut, trapping them in. Rover turns back to help seeing the facility under attack despite Marrow’s pleas. More Sentinels arrive overwhelming Rover. He gathers the last of his robot strength to fight off long enough for Marrow to escape. The victory of the recovered data is bittersweet, the team lost a dear comrade and Marrow is especially upset. Professor X contacts Logan with news that he has eight days to stop the war that is to begin and that will push Jean to use her devastating powers.
22 - Aces & Eights
Wolverine is tipped off that a mutant spy hired by Senator Kelly will steal Magneto’s helmet and it may be the flashpoint of the war. Wolverine and Nightcrawler take off to try and stop the thief. Gambit arrives on Magneto’s shores and openly admits that he is there to steal his helmet, but claims he would rather take refuge in their paradise. Lorna has taken an interest in Gambit, and sneaks into the cells and will release Gambit if he’ll take her away from Genosha with him. Gambit pushes away form the shore, pulling Magneto’s stolen helmet from his satchel. He floats away apologizing for not being the man she thought he was. Her father appears on the shore to his weeping daughter as the island erupts in explosions behind them. Magneto is determined that Senator Kelly will pay for this. Wolverine and Nightcrawler are too late. Wolverine decides to show them what their war will bring. Future Xavier reveals the grim future that is governed by neither mutants nor man but machines.
23 - Shades of Grey
Emma thinks she has located Jean at a hospital close by. She and Scott leave the Mansion to bring her home, which is easier said then done when they along with a 500 mile radius of people are knocked unconscious by Jean’s rusty powers. Sinister is also aware that Jean is alive and sends Archangel to get her. They fight him off and hurry Jean into the van. Her memory is completely gone and she has no idea who she is or who they are. Archangel is in hot pursuit and eventually crashes the van and snags the unconscious Soctt and Jean delivering them to Sinister’s Lab. Together the X-Men crash Sinister’s Lab and manage to take the two captives back. But Sinister already has the DNA samples he needs. Jean rests, recovering from the whole ordeal. The whole team is there to say hello. But in an instant they are all knocked unconscious by a psychic blow from Emma. She parades through Jean’s room with four mysterious figures in tow: The Inner Circle…
24 - Foresight - Part 1
Situations are starting to intensify both in the future and in the present. Future X has been captured by the Seninels and taken to Master Mold. He is shocked to see a re-built and higher-tech Cerebro and he forced to operate the duplicate, locating the last of the world’s mutants. In the present, Wolverine is certain Emma is behind Jean’s disappearance but despite her denial he locks her up while the team focuses their efforts on stopping Kelly’s Sentinels from reaching Genosha where Magneto is sure to retaliate. But it’s not Kelly that is launching the Sentinels, it’s Mystique using his form. Scott stays behind and releases Emma hoping she can locate Jean yet again. Once free she takes off without him to the Inner Circle’s mansion. There, in her White Queen form, she explains to Jean how the Phoenix needs to be released before it is uncontrollable or all of the world will suffer. This has been the Inner Circle’s purpose for centuries, to look for the next telepath with the Phoenix force and set it free.
25 - Foresight - Part 2
Future Xavier is forced by the Sentinels to locate the world’s remaining mutants and once complete Col. Moss turns to kill him when Wolverine shows up to save the day! In the present, the crux of events establishing the war is upon the X-Men who lay unconscious at the destroyed Sentinel factory after their attempt to stop the launch. Emma and the five Cuckoos trick Jean into opening the mental barriers that are keeping the Phoenix force in. Emma goes to find Scott in order to subdue Jean. In her absence the group tries to locate the last of the barriers and capture the Phoenix without her. Emma finds the unconscious X-Men and rushes to Scott waking him up to say she knows where Jean is. But when they arrive back to stop the Inner Circle they are quickly overpowered by the Cuckoos own psychic force. On Genosha, Magneto magnetically overtakes the Sentinels that are destroying the Island, and tells her to prepare for their war as he flies back to the Mainland with his new Sentinels.
