Tsukasa
A Wavemaster, Tsukasa is a player who finds himself unable to log out of “The World.” He also learns that he has several extraordinary abilities, including an ability to move without utilizing the Chaos Gates, and a Guardian that will appear and protect him from danger. Tsukasa is withdrawn and morose, and continually says that all he wants is to be left alone.

Mimiru
A Heavy Blade, Mimiru’s personality is sunny and bright. Her first encounter with Tsukasa goes badly, but she still tries to become his friend. When Tsukasa is in trouble, she tries to go to his aid and help him. She becomes drawn deeper and deeper into the mystery that surrounds him.

Bear
A Blademaster, Bear is jovial and kind. He likes to help new players in The World. He offers his friendship to Tsukasa, but Tsukasa initially rejects it. Later, however, Bear becomes key to unraveling the mystery of Tsukasa’s inability to log out.

Subaru
A Heavy Axeman, Subaru doesn’t spend much time at all using her weapon. She is the leader of the Crimson Knights, a group of players who have taken it upon themselves to act as self-styled “police” in The World. She maintains that they are there to assist, not to enforce. She is a very shy, quiet girl, but she can be very icy and commanding when called upon to do so. She’s originally concerned about the repercussions of Tsukasa’s actions and later, about Tsukasa himself.

Silver Knight
Another Blademaster, the Silver Knight is the second-in-command of the Crimson Knights. He can usually be found with Subaru. He plays the game with very strict interpretations of the rules, and feels that those who break the rules must be brought to justice. He does not care for Tsukasa at all; he’s just interested in seeing justice prevail. He seems hard and commanding, but he has a soft spot for Subaru.

BT
A Wavemaster, BT seems to enjoy playing the game, not for the adventures, but for the politics of it. She is perhaps the craftiest of all the players and is always looking for an angle that will enable her to come out on top. She isn’t really interested in Tsukasa as much as she is in the power that he seems to possess. BT also likes to stir things up, and has been known to say things just to get reactions out of people.

Crim
Crim is a Long Arm, and he uses a spear as his weapon of choice. Stoic and almost stereotypically heroic, to him, the World is exactly what it is - a game. He doesn’t get too involved and prefers not to get too personal with players. He used to be a member of the Crimson Knights. He is very devoted to Subaru, despite, or perhaps because of, something that happened in the past.

Sora
An annoying Twin Blade, Sora first shows up as a PK (Player Killer), a player who goes around killing other players instead of monsters. When he learns of Tsukasa and the power that he seems to have, he becomes obsessed with getting close to him. To this end, he forms alliances with whomever he thinks can further his goals. He will double-cross someone the second he gets a better offer. He is constantly making his own sound effects and is a continual source of irritation to the others.
