Guitar Hero III is where rock legends are born!
Reviewed By: gp_stratego

Guitar Hero is now something of a legend among video games. No other game in history has made consumers buy a custom game controller like Guitar Hero has. No other game has made so many people feel like a rock star. If you haven’t played Guitar Hero yet, you should come down off that remote mountain you’ve been living on and pick it up.

Legends of Rock is the third game to come out in the series. There are some new twists, definitely new music, and a new guitar! Do I need to cover the basics for you?

You get this guitar shaped controller and you hit the buttons and strum as the notes scroll down the screen. Do it correctly and the song plays normally and the fans dig it. Do it wrong, and the fans boo and you lose.

You can now play through the tour mode co-operatively, which rocks because it is way more fun to play with a partner than to just play on your own. You almost have to own two guitars to see the full potential of this game. There is also a new combat two-player mode where you can use power-ups to mess with the other rocker.

This includes attacks that increase the difficulty for the other player, or freeze their guitar until they shake the whammy bar a bit. During the single player game, you get to use this mode in a Rock ‘n’ Roll face-off against master guitar players like Slash (from Guns’n’Roses) and Tom Morello (from Rage Against the Machine).

You also get a full set of new songs to play. If you’re on Xbox live, you can also buy new songs online and download them. As usual, there is a good mix of musical genres covered, so there should be something of interest to you. I myself go for the classic rock, so “Slow Ride” by Foghat, “Barracuda” by Heart , and “Paint it Black” by the Rolling Stones are some of my faves.

The game also comes with a wireless guitar, which I’ve wanted for a long time. It’s so nice not to be tethered to the machine while I rock out. The downside is that you have to keep some batteries around to make sure you can keep rocking.

I would have liked to have seen some more upgrades in this version, like more character customization. I’ve grown a little tired of the cast of characters in the game, and would like to be able to edit my own rocker. Maybe let me put my own face in there? Oh well. You can’t have everything I guess.

This game delivers a rocking good time. I’m happy to spend my hard earned dollars on a brand new set of songs to rock out to, and a wireless guitar.

Remember to take a break though while you’re playing so you don’t injure yourself. And don’t forget that playing bass is a little easier than guitar, so you can raise the difficulty a little when you’re on bass.
