This depends if you want pop or rock.

Pop groups (mainly with female singers):

W
Morning Musume
Ayumi Hamasaki
Mika Nakashima
Mini Moni
Koda Kumi
Gackt (he's considered rock too though, depends the song, really)
Megumi Hayashibara

rock artists (well, most "everything else" techno-goth-rock, Visual Kei, pop rock, ect)

Blam Honey (weird electronica)
Dir en grey (a heavier group depending what songs you get. some songs are really poppy too)
hide
Guniw Tools (really weird)
Kagrra ("neo-Japanesque)
L'Arc~en~Ciel
Bump of Chicken
MUCC (way heavy)
Metronome
Miyavi
Rentrer en Soi
Soft Ballet

Find a fan site of just about any of those rock or pop groups and you'll find dozens upon dozens of links or pages with information on oodles of other groups I haven't mentioned. I'd really recommend these though. I love them all.

In my opinion you should start at Malice Mizer than listen to all the other bands that were created once Malice Mizer broke up.

Theres:

Gackt
Moi Dix Mois (Mana)
Shwartz Stein (Also by Mana, I don't know how it's spelt)
Eve of Destiny (Kozi)
Khala (He should have a few singles)

Kami died unfortunately and Yuki is off somewhere.

ÐarkMaiden
-Nymphetamine Girl-

Schwarz Stein. Mana only produced them. They broke up almost a year ago too though.

Közi also does solo stuff, not with Eve of Destiny, that I personally think is *alot* better than Eve of Destiny. It's just really hard to find.

Yu~ki apparently helped Közi write some song off some single or album he is going to release soon or just released recently. I'm not 100% sure. But Yu~ki is still around, just barely.

Malice Mizer was excellent. I wish they hadn't of broken up.
