Ok, Alister is dueling Kaiba, I get that cause he thinks that Gorzaboro killed his bro. But why in the world would Rafael want to duel Yami and Varon want to duel JOey? It don't make any sense! Do they have a grudge against them or something?

Raphael wants to duel the Pharaoh because the Pharaoh is hotter than him...no jks, but seriously, its true the Pharaoh is hot. He wants to deul him cuz the Pharaoh represents everything he is against, cuz he want to defeat the worlds best deulist (and the literal King of Games) and cuz he is most likly to be the one who defeats Dartz.
Valon wants to deul Joey cuz Valon loves Mai but Mai loves Joey so Valon thinks that if Joey don't got a soul anymore, he and Mai could be together. He is basicly jealose.

Hmmmm...good question.
Rapheal wanted to duel Yami/Pharoah because of his soul who has a particular liking to absorb by Dartz. Also, there has to be a particular person who will attempt to destroy his reputation as Pharoah by claiming nonsense about being a wicked pharoah (I'm sure you noticed in their duel) and putting him at his knees. Rapheal is the man. Oh, and later on at the end, Dartz does the same. Don't ask for details cuz I'm not spoiling.

Well, here's something to know Valon; if YOU think Joey thinks that he doesn't care for his best friend, do some history research, mister. That is true. It was really annoying when he was balbbing on about Joey not knowing how Mai feels. Well that is true...Joey doesn't know, only because Mai never told him! She told Varon so he knows.
But Varon only wants to beat Joey cause he wants Mai to fall for him! He thinks that beating Joey would get Mai's attention and that she would go out with him. This is weird I tell ya!

for Varon it would most likely be because Joey is kinda like an obstacle that's keeping him and Mai from being together(note this is just a guess though). it's more a rivalry thing for Joey and Varon, and in the world of fandom, just think of it as one of the love triangle things xD
Raphael is an interesting one, why the Pharaoh? most likely because Dartz feels that Raphael would be the only one able to take him on, or actually it may tie into Raphael's strong belief in fate and destiny.

I think that Joey doesn't understand, none of them did. I mean Mai never told them. You guys are correct, Valon wants to duel Joey cause I think that he likes her.
Rafael, probaly cause he's the best out of them and is most likely to defeat the pharoh (i'm not sure, it's just a guess)
