This must seem the oddest place to put this... but I just gotta have opinions, y'know! So, my cousin just recently got myself into cosplaying at conventions. I love it dearly. The people taking pictures, being able to act like the person without a care in the world, especially with friends. It's just amazing! However, most of my 'friends' will most likely freak out if I tell them. You may say, "Well you don't know your friends they might like it you never know." In fact, I do know. A girl at my school put some pictures of her cosplaying, and all the comments were all about her being a freak... So I have these questions: 1) How do I ask my mom to buy cosplays for me? (I used my cousin's old one, and my mom is really suspicious of the sites and their prices...) 2) How can I tell my friends in a casual way? Not just going out, and be like, "OHAI GUISE IM A COSPLAYER!@!11!"
I've already told my best friend, and she's totally cool with it. But the others... Aren't so forgiving. Halp meh ufuf! u__u
Thanks if you help me! ~

Honestly....
If your "friends" are not going to be accepting of something you are passionate about.
Then do you really think they are friends?
Really, just do what you love and find people who will accept you for that! Don't make decisions that you know will make you unhappy. I bet you will make lots of new friends in the cosplay world!

They're the only friends I have, in total honesty. We've been friends since elementary school, and even preschool. I'd feel bad. Besides, I probably just blame it on their teenage-changing ways. (*cough cough* You, err. Yeah. You know. Starts with a P?)
They haven't been very friend-tastic lately, that's true.
I hope I will too! I'll probably just be the awkward cosplayer in the background, saying things like, "Guys? I'm, ah, over here too..."
Thanks for your help, by the way. c:

Yeah! Just try connecting with more like-minded people who are into the same things as you, there are others out there! Also you could just try slowing easing your older friends into seeing what you're interested rather then being like "HEY GUYS GUESS WHAT". A couple of my friends I still have from elementary school have VASTLY different likes/styles than me now but I don't worry about what they think, we're still friends and as long as they accept me for all my weirdness then everything is great!
Good luck!

this might be late but i'll give it a shot xD as penny said, if they are your friends they should just accept it. i told my friends who don't care a whit for yu-gi-oh about how much i loved the show. they gave me the O_o but just went along with it. i don't bring it up in conversation, but i just don't want them weirded out when they posters in my room. (yes, i'm such a fangirl) everyone has a secret obsession; i'm sure even your friends have one. the trick is just to just not care about what people think. it's hard, but if you like something, no one should prevent you from expressing your opinions on it. people may think it's weird, but, in time, they'll just shrug it off. just tell them and don't bring it up again unless you have to. but don't be ashamed about it! be proud of what you like.
you should learn to make cosplays. i know this girl that literally makes all her costumes from scratch. and let me tell you, it's impressive. maybe if you can learn to do that your friends might be impressed by the fact that you can design and create costumes.
i hope this helps.
