I tried posting this before, but it never happened. So! I was replaying Crystal Chronicles when I got inspired. The plot is so amazing! Though Square Enix forgot to explain things easily. If by some, freaky chance, you're still playing the game, don't read this fan fiction! It contains major spoilers. I will even warn you, if there are spoilers in the chapter. I don't own any of this! All characters, plot, monsters, places, etc. belong to Square Enix and/or Nintendo. This fan fiction was made purely for amusement. Enjoy!

Prologue
*******
Many years ago, a great meteor fell from the sky and shattered the Great Crystal. A baneful gas, known as miasma soon covered the land. Exposure to miasma can prove fatal without the proper protection. The protection were shards of the Great Crystal. Settlements all had one to protect them. However, the crystal's blessing was not eternal. Only for one mere year, will the blessing last. The only way to anew the blessing, was through a substance known as myrrh. Myrrh is gathered in drops from myrrh trees. This would not be a problem if monsters did not prowl the road. The monsters appeared exactly one hundred years after the meteor fell. They are strange, since they seem to have a resistance towards miasma. But that's a different story. Myrrh trees sprouted where monsters tended to stay. So every year, the villages would send out brave souls in search of myrrh. They were called crystal caravans.

Now that I realize school's going to start in a week, I'll change posting two chapters a week to two or three times a month. But, the chapters will be longer.

Tale One: Dreck

Hmm, I wonder why monsters came exactly a century after the meteor crashed? I marveled. A long shadow blocked the sunlight. "Hello, Dreck. It is good to see you are not panicking, but it is almost time to leave." a voice gently scolded me.
I looked up lazily."Oh, it's just you, Callada. I thought that you were Sui Zare. Boy, am I glad."
The Yuke made a disapproving click sound.
Now, this might sound a bit odd, but Yukes always intimidated me a bit. Even Callada, who was probably the nicest person in Tipa. I once heard that Yukes had no bodies- only souls. Creepy, right?
"Dreck, you do realize that it is almost seven in the morning? We leave in fifteen, twenty minutes. I would suggest that you get up, grab your pack and come along quietly to the crystal." Callada's voice was still polite, but was as cold as her helmet.
"Uh...Of course? I'll be right there."
"Wonderful. I will meet you there with Xavier and Sui Zare. And if you don't hurry, we shall leave you behind, Captain of Tipa's Crystal Caravan." her voice sounded amused and she had emphasized 'Captain'. I'm not sure why, but I think she was making fun of me.
Either way, I grabbed my bag and scrambled down to the crystal.
Sui Zare gave me a distasteful look as soon as I got there.
"What did I do?!" I demanded her, "Even I can't mess up before something starts!"
"You already messed up. By being late. In case if you really are touched in the head, we agreed to meet here by six twenty-five. Oh look, it's ten to seven."
"Give me a break. You're just jealous that I was chosen to be captain instead of you."
The Selkie's face flushed scarlet. "How dense are you? I don't care about that. It's the fact that you were chosen over Callada and Xavier."
I looked desperately back at Callada, but she just chuckled softly and shook her head. I turned to Xavier.
"What do you think of this?" I asked him, frantic for back-up.
"Well, Sui Zare has a point about you and being late. But I don't agree with her on that last point."
I sighed in relief. "See, Sui Zare? At least Xavier is still sane. 'Course, not that you ever were."
Sui Zare glared at me with such hatred, I saw my life flash before me. "He isn't finished yet. You are far too presumptuous to be a leader." she hissed.
"I don't agree that Callada and me being candidates for being the captain. It should've been me!" Xavier laughed.
"That's why I hate it when you're pumped." I grumbled.
"Well, it's good to see that you are all bonding, but please, try not to kill each other before you start." Roland chuckled, as he strolled up to us.
"Indeed," Malayde agreed,"We can't have your journey end before it begins."

Guah! I'm too tired too go on. I hope you liked this chapter.

"Ah, it is fine. After all, they say when friends have small squabbles, it usually means they care about each other. Now, have you all packed your things?" Malayde asked us.
"Yep." I patted my rucksack.
"Got it." Xavier replied.
"Done." Sui Zare nodded.
"Yes." Callada said.
"Wonderful," Roland nodded,"It is about time for you to leave. Have you all said good-bye yet?"
We all nodded.
"So, you are now ready. May you return safely and with your chalice full of myrrh."
"Wait for me, kupo!" a random moogle bolted towards us.
"Who are you!" I yelped, as the moogle rammed into me.
"My name is Mog, kupo. Roland here, asked me to help you guys out, kupo." the moogle chirped happily.
"Ah, yes. I asked Mog here to help you. I figured you could use some help carrying the chalice." Roland told us.
"Well, he certainly is cute." Callada said stroking his bonbon.

Tale Three: Enter River Belle Path (Pt. One- An Encounter of Chance)

When we left the safety of Tipa's crystal, it was already noon and our papaomaus was exhausted. So, we decided to take a break for lunch, when a caravan approached us.
"Ah, so you are Tipa's new caravan. You all seem to be in good spirits." their captain told us.
"Oh. Hello. Um, who's caravan are you?" I asked.
"I am Sol Racht, captain of the caravan from the great city of Alfitaria." he said proudly.
"I'm Dreck Grant, this is Xavier Mader, that's Sui Zare and finally, that's Callada Tujuto."
"Hey, kupo! You forgot about me, kupo!" Mog cried out.
"Oh, and that's Mog." I added.
"You're caravan only has one Lilty? That's not good, though I suppose it should suffice." Sol noticed.
"Excuse me?" Xavier asked.
"Oh, nothing. You should be fine. We must get going now. Since this is you're first time out, I would recommend going to the River Belle Path. It's quite close to here, too." Sol began to leave.

Tale Four: Enter River Belle Path (Pt. Two- Moogles Have Homes?)

"Well, Sol told us we should go to River Belle Path, but he never told us about the goblins!" I screamed as one of them attacked us from behind.
"Callada, can you charge up an -ara spell?!" Xavier shouted as he dove to the ground.
"Not at the moment!" Callada called out from my left. "Does anyone have another magicite to spare? Preferably a Blizzard!"
"Here!" Sui Zare tossed her an ice blue orb.
Callada fumbled with her hammer and shot out a Blizzara.
"There! Now, hit it quickly! The spell can't last longer than a few minutes!"
"I got it." Xavier quickly whacked the frozen obelisk and the ice shattered; revealing a fallen goblin which began to disintegrate.
"Hey! It left us some chunks of iron! This is great! All we need now are some scrolls!" Sui Zare exclaimed.
We divided it evenly between each of us, one chunk of iron for each.
"Have you ever heard of a moogle's nest, kupo?" Mog suddenly asked us.
"No." I answered.
"Nope." Xavier shook his head.
"Not really." Callada said.
"Yes." Sui Zare nodded.
"What's a moogle's nest?" I asked.
"It's a moogle's home. There's one behind the crystal in Tipa," Sui Zare told us, "I heard they're all over the world."
"That's right, kupo! My kinsmen should be hidden, considering monsters live here." Mog chirped cheerfully.
"You mean like this?" Xavier touched a round stone and revealed a small hole.
"Let's go, kupo!" Mog picked the chalice up and flew into the hole with his bonbon bobbing up and down.
"It's not like we have a choice." I shrugged and we entered.

It's so hard toning everything down to a 'kid friendly' level. (T^T)

Tale Five: Enter River Belle Path (Pt. Three- The Beautiful Ugly)

Once we entered the nest, our jaws dropped. The home was so... cozy. There was a tree trunk/fireplace (how that happened, we're still not sure), a swirly stair case, a bookshelf, a rocking chair, maps hung all over the walls and a bed upstairs.
"Hello, my brother, kupo! It's me, Mog!" Mog squealed with delight as soon as he entered.
"Oh! It's so good to see you, kupo!" the moogle who owned the nest shouted back.
For a little while, the moogles flew together and chatted happily.
"Umm, Mog? Sorry to burst your excitement, but we have to go soon. Like now." I told him.
"Yeah, we better hurry if we want to make it out of here by sunset." Xavier agreed.
"Oh. All right then, kupo." Mog said dejectedly.

As soon as we left the nest, we tore through the rest of the dungeon and quickly got to the final arena.
"Wow, this scenery. It's... it's..." Sui Zare stared at the gorgeous waterfall.
"It's sublime?" Xavier suggested.
"Opulent?" I tried.
"Pulchritudinous?" Callada offered.
"What?" Sui Zare stared at her.
"It's a word." Callada said, somewhat offended.
"How about ravishing, kupo." Mog volunteered.
"That's it. That's the word, Mog." Sui Zare nodded.
*RUMBLE*
"What was that?" Xavier looked around.
"Wasn't there supposed to be a giant crab here?" Callada asked.
"Yeah" I said.
"Well, here it is!" Sui Zare shouted.

Sorry!
This is the third time I've apologized for a late chapter.
But, I have my reasons (inability to revert back to fanfiction mode from short story).
I might try and post my short story here, after some censorship, of course.

Tale Six: Enter River Belle Path (Pt. Four-Holy Crab!)
**************************************
"Oh my goodness, that's one giant...monster? Can you even call it that?" Callada asked us.
"Perhaps, but does it not look rather delicious?" Xavier remarked.
"Xavier! You can steam, fry or do whatever to that crab after we've razed it." Sui Zare yelled at him.
"Raise? Like lift up? Why in the world would we do that?" I asked her.
"R-a-z-e. Raze. It means to destroy, trash, cream, you know, all those things." Callada explained.
The giant crab roared (can crabs even roar?) and swung its claw at us and barely missed me.
I cringed at the graze it gave me. It was burning now.
"Hey, can anyone Cure me? Please?"
Xavier pointed his sword at me and shot one at me.
"How come you don't have one? Didn't Malayde give you one?"
"I lost it."
Sui Zare gave me an incredulous look. "How do you lose a blue-green orb shaped magicite the size of your fist?"
"I don't know! It just sorta fell out of my bag, I guess."
"Heads up! A couple of mu are heading your way!" Callada called.
The mu were easy. We wiped them out in seconds. The real challenge was the crab.
"Isn't there any magic that's effective against it?" Xavier asked Callada.
She thought about it for a second. Unfortunately, we didn't have a second. The crab began to charge up some sort of thunder spell.
"Dodge it! It's a Thundara spell!" Sui Zare warned us.
What Xavier did was probably really stupid or really brave.
He charged at the crab.
He hacked at the crab wildly and got up every time it knocked him down.
Call me crazy, but I joined him in the fray.
"What are you guys thinking?! You're going to get killed!" Sui Zare screeched at us.
"It's a crab. What element is effective?" Callada muttered.
After attacking it for a while, I noticed something. We weren't doing very much, or any, damage to it.
Suddenly, I heard a wild cry.
Sui Zare charged at the crab and nailed it with a smack to the face.
I stared at her. "You're actually helping us? I thought you would be smarter." I teased her.
She snorted. "I can't let you two have all the fun. You're both too incompetent to defeat this by yourselves."
"I got it! We need a Blizzaga spell!" Callada yelled at us.
Sui Zare gave us a wicked smile. Say, who wants to help out? There's still one spot left for a magicite."

I'm not gonna lie, it was really good. The title was what made me click on the link to read this (= I'm gonna admit though, I found it a bit hard to follow. But, maybe it's just me? I do have quite high expectations when I read a story nowadays (= Great job and keep up the good work Blueroses!

Well, the game was pretty hard to follow and I want to keep the plot the same so, sorry, but I will do a plot summary in the end. (Cranberry has a lisp from r and l sounds)

"I'll take it!" Xavier jammed a Blizzard into his sword and began to charge it up.
"What do I do?" I asked Sui Zare.
"Distract it! Lure it closer to us, that way we can guarantee a hit." she told me.
Looking back, the plan was good for beginners, but rather poorly planned and executed. It was too simple. I would be a distraction while the others would charge up the Blizzaga spell.
I lashed out at the crab. At first, my attacks weren't doing very much, but soon they began taking their toll. Its claw was smashed (by me!) and soon, it's shell began to crack.
"Dreck, fall back! The spell is ready!" Callada yelled at me.
I quickly scrambled towards them and fortunately, the crab followed me.
"Follow my directions! Xavier, you and Sui Zare make release a Blizzara spell. Then, I'll quickly follow with a Blizzard. Let's hope we get the timing right."
They both successfully shot out a Blizzara spell, Callada shot out her Blizzard spell, with only a second worth of delay. The Blizzaga was awesome, too cool to describe. (You should YouTube it, amazing graphics)
It hit the crab at point blank. The crab froze and I came up for a focus blast. It exploded as soon as my attack hit.
"Is this... crab meat?" I stuck my hand out to try and taste it.
"Mm, yup, chilled to perfection." Xavier was happily chewing on the meat.
"That's disgusting." Sui Zare held her hand out and caught some. She tentatively held it up to her mouth before eating it.
"Hey Callada, why don't you eat some?" I asked her.
She shook her head. "No, I am a vegetarian. Meat would not be good for me to eat. Shall we collect our drop of myrrh now?"

After we finished eating our delicious meat, we went to the myrrh tree and placed our chalice under it. The tree began glow, as did the crystal on our chalice. Slowly, a drop of myrrh began to form and gently floated into our chalice with a soft plop.
"Amazing." Xavier whispered. Unfortunately, the tranquil moment was disrupted by a loud crash.
"Maiwe Moogwe! Dewivewy fowe Tipa's cawavan, kupo!" a moogle called out.
"We're over here." I called.
"Oh! Hewe ya go, kupo! Tose awe wettewes fwom yaw's woved ones, kupo!" he told us merrily. He handed us each one letter.
"Is that an extra letter?" I pointed to the larger one in his bag.
"Oh! Tank ya fowe weminding Cwanbewwy about his speciawe wettewe, kupo! Cwanbewwy was going to fowget, but ya toed him befowe he could, kupo!"
"You're welcome?"
"Tat's a wettewe fwom Wowand, kupo. He toed Cwanbewwy to give it to ya, kupo. It's fowe Dweck Gwant, Xaviewe Madewe, Sui Zawe and Cawwada Tujuto, kupo! Uh-ohs! Cwanbewwy is wate! His boss isn't won't be happy, kupo! He's going to cut Cwanbewwy's sawawy wight in half, kupo! Bye-bye! Cwanbewwy's gonna see ya guys soon, wight, kupo?" with that, Cranberry patted his bag and took off.

Here are the letters that our lovely little caravan got. And note, they camped outside of Tipa for a day, took one day to reach River Belle and one day to reach the Myrrh Tree (though I omitted that).

Hello, Dreck. How's the caravan? We all miss you terribly. It is difficult enough to keep myself from crying, but really difficult keeping Kari and Carl from doing the same is near impossible. I don't think they know exactly how much danger you're in. They cry because I cry and also because you are not here.
But, there is no need to worry for us. Our business has been good lately. In fact, I plan on buying new china and silverware. And, if this were not too much too ask, but, could you send us any rare materials back for us? Perhaps some alloy, since you know there is a heavy demand for them.
