NEWS FLASH ON THE GOO GOO DOLLS:
yeah, so their new song is for the new TRANSFORMERS movie coming out july 3 (was supposed to be july 4 [heh, the day i was baptized!] but they moved it up). they're going on tour with the band Lifehouse (the dudes who sing "you and me" and their new song "first time" and some other unknown singer chick. im already obessed with their new song, ive heard it at least 4 times this week. its not one of their best, but its really nice.
"I wandered through fiction to look for the truth buried beneath all the lies"- The Goo Goo Dolls [Before It's Too Late] <<yay! ive remembered something from that song already!

Well, i was going to Address this post to You two (stephies.. and Jhans..) But your looking like two of the only people here, so I won't even bother.

i saw a commercial for the Transformers movie. looks kinda cool, but the song doesnt exactly fit the movie in my opinion so far. i have to look into the lyrics more if i can find them. i dont know anything about the movie yet but i still think the song rocks!

sorta bumping this topic up. it was on the second page.
i found out today that i have to sing one of my favourite songs in front of the whole class (its a music assignment we have to do) and im haveing trouble deciding whether to sing iris or here is gone. i like iris better by a pinch, but here is gone seems easier to sing but has more lyrics than iris and im kinda caught in the middle. any help, jchans or krickett?

There is always one band that makes music they like and no one else does (In this case, Supertramp) and then there's a band that makes horrible music just to reach mainstream popularity(In this case, Goo Goo Dolls). I despise the latter.
They've ruined a few great songs by covering them and adding their "twist".

Stephieskool- What a strange assignment! Anyway, I can see what you mean 'Here Is Gone' sounds a bit easier melody-wise but Iris has less words to get your tongue around. I'd stick with my gut instinct and choose Iris.
Try singing both songs a few times and which ever sounds better to you, stick with it. When the assignment is done, tell us how it went! Good luck to you!

stephieskool- There's a few key elements to consider. Krickett does have a point about Iris having less lyrics, however neither song is really that hard to memorize[Especially since I imagine you[stephie] is quite familiar with both songs]...
There is also the matter of the actual music: Are you singing along with the song, or with the background music present, because Iris has a fairly significant guitar solo, and it might seem odd singing the song with that part absent... Here Is Gone on the other hand has no such solo[I even checked for you to make sure... lol ]...
You might also want to think about if there's one you find you know better, or sing better.

hi7777- The "Give A Little Bit" cover is in my opinion the worst Goo Goo Dolls song sung by Johnny Rzeznik[Some of Takac's songs give it a run for it's money in worst song overall though... lol] ever. They covered a lame song, it turned out lame... Don't see any surprises there[Sorry, couldn't resist]... lol... Cut them some slack... However, I honestly don't know why they even bothered covering that song, to me that's like the... Dixie Chicks covering a... Nirvana song. The goo goo dolls are nothing like Supertramp[Thank Goodness... lol]. It was mistake, and hopefully one that won't ever happen again. hi777- they only did a cover for one song in their whole entire careers, except when they were kids (well, teenagers) and had a job to do cover songs at this bar in their hometown of Buffalo.
Krickett- thanks. i'll tell you how it went on Tuesday when i have to sing.
jchansfan- disco song... it sounds nothing like something they'd play at a disco, but i guess thats just johnny or some inside joke they had while making the song. true, its a very catchy song, half the reason why i remember it!
i feel sooooooo stupid right now. i was reading some of my earilier posts and i realized that i called the bassist "tommy" instead of "robby". *giggles* my mistake!

jchansfan- my teacher is letting us decide whether to sing it with music or without. ive decided on here is gone cuz it has more lyrics and it'll be easier to sing so easy marks off the bat true, that "give a little bit" is more than "a little bit" weird. the lyrics dont match the goo goo dolls and... it just doesnt work.

*gives sigh of relief* yay! i did it! i performed here is gone in front of the whole class and they LOVED it! i thought i did well compared to the other girls in my class who did songs from HSM but heck, i did something more original! some dudes in my class sang "the belly button song" by the vegetables (who call themselves "boyz in the sink" in Veggie Tales. i thought that was pretty cute.

oh yeah, jchansfan, i forgot you're in highschool! i still have another week, but thats all fun stuff so it really doesnt matter!
anyways, i heard that the goo goo dolls postponed a concert so that they could perform with other bands and singers for funds that go to rebuilding a place in LA (i think...) that got burnt down in either march, april, or may. the article also said that the lead singer from lifehouse (the dudes they're touring with) is excited to be touring with the goo goo dolls cuz he "grew up listening to their music and remembers when he got the dizzy up the girl CD when he was about 17 or 18". Wow... how old is the guy... late 20's? makes the goo goo dolls sound old! lol!
