Well... you are in art class. Of course the teacher is going to like the better students, that goes for every subject. My Math and Physics teachers think I'm a lazy, stupid burnout, but on the other hand, my English, French and Psychology teachers adore me. That's just how school works. Teachers are nicer to the students that do well or try hard because they went into teaching to inspire and teach the youth that will lead them tomorrow. However, early on into their careers they realize that a lot of the youth simply do not care, and decide that it's better to nurture those that want to be better and simply let the ones that don't try or care to do their own thing.

Here's my advice; if you don't really care for art, just stick it out. I'm sure the teacher doesn't HATE you, she just prefers the better students. That's not that big of a deal. If getting on her good side is super important to you, and you like art, then practice! There's really nothing more that can be said. A teacher is also really impressed when you go to them after school to get help; maybe you could ask your teacher for help with different art techniques and such. But once again, don't do this just to be a teacher's pet; do this if you love art. If you don't love art, just stick it out for the year.

Unfortunately from my experience, you either stick it out, or you can suck up to her/ do art that she is expecting you to do. Or you can just not care and let your creativity do whatever it wants to do, art class should be fun even if the teacher is not so awesome! And it's good having friends in the class to! They always made it better when I had horrible art teachers......good luck, I probably was not much help. ><
