Honestly, game companies don’t care about us anymore. Yes I’m excited about some games coming out this year (Fable II, LittleBig Planet, ect.), but they don’t have the same hype and awesome factor that gets me searching all 4 corners of the internet for ever little bit of information I could possibly want to know about an upcoming game. Nintendo by far has to care about its core base the least since they’ve shifted towards the casual market. It makes sense on a business stand point, but they don’t care about us. I’m tired of the excuse of hearing people saying, “Well, they’re just focusing on the casual right now so that they can slowly pull them into hardcore/the need to make enough money 1st before they can focus on hardcore again.” Nintendo probably made more money in 2003 when their revenue dropped down 43% than Pizza Hut did in 2003, and I don’t see Pizza Hut going out of business, so don’t give me that. People, wake up, quit being fanboys/girls, and face the music. Your game companies don’t care about you and are just like every other greedy corporation. That’s why I’m not loyal to one system or brand, I’ve got them all, so I can play them all.

Of course every definition anyone can ever offer will end with 'like me', people just want to make themselves look like the best.

Of course 9 year-olds aren't allowed to be considered 'gamer's... like that's worth anything anyway.Nor are people who just happen to not particularly like a certain type of game, or perhaps haven't obtained an original PONG machine off eBay quite yet (thus haven't played 'all generations&#39.

jedu_10 - Please, don't start one of those idiotic 'real gamer' debates. A gamer is someone who plays video games. As long as someone plays video games, they qualify. o_O People seem to enjoy giving others stupid titles and demean them for it, based on arbitrary things like what kind of games they happen to enjoy or how often they play them. Enjoy a good artsy puzzle game once in a while? You're too casual, we don't want to hang out with you. Spend all your time with all the most expensive FPS games? Congratulations, you're a hardcore gamer, you get to pick on people who don't have the same taste as you. It's all so extremely trivial, and when people on both sides start to call themselves the 'real' gamers... God, how is that needed? Just play your goshdarn games.
I could rant on how evil award shows are, but I think that'd make the post far too long.
All I was saying is that while E3 was once this great thing (a few years ago I would spend all day watching G4's coverage and read coverage online during the commercials), it's been both downsized a lot, and all the big companies are making their bigger, more exciting announcements at other conventions, such as the Tokyo Game Show.
As for my other comment, it just works in with more of your post, Jedu. You think one of the big deals of E3 this year is the explaination of Gears of War 2. Look at that title. It's a sequel. Not only that, it's a sequel to an insanely 'realistic' (see: brown) first person shooter.
There are too many sequels.
There is too much brown.
There are far too many first person shooters.

karl001 – Yeah but that’s because Athene is just a character. He thinks he’s pro at everything in life, and his gamer skills apply to real life. I honestly don’t think he acts like that in real life; otherwise I’d be worried. Anyways, my point; his character is expected to do that so I wouldn’t find his review to be trustworthy.

Only real disappoint for me (in regard to the 'big 3's' press conferences at least) was the lack of loyalty from Square Enix. Final Fantasy XIII going multi-plat may be a great business move to widen the audience for the game, but to have had people on the development team constantly saying in interviews how it's exclusive and 'can only be done on the ps3' has finally killed whatever faith I had in believing what devs say. It kinda also makes me foolish to think that there was such a thing as loyalty since Square did leave Nintendo for Sony after all....>_>

Since E3 isn't quite over yet, I can't say that it's an entire disappointment yet. The gameplay vids for Mirror's Edge, LittleBigPlanet, Fallout 3 et al really got me pumping for the games to come. But a lot of the games that I really wanted to know about (or at least get a glimpse of) such as Heavy Rain or L.A. Noire haven't disclosed a thing. And then for the unveiling of the new IPs such as MAG or I Am Alive, hasn't really caught my attention too much and hasn't brought the "wow" as much as LBP or Mirror's Edge did when they were unveiled.

Here's hoping TGS might have something better to whet our appetites for more.

If anyone has been paying attention to the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) this year you might already know what I’m talking about. Specifically I’m referring to the big 3’s conferences.

Microsoft despite being really the only one that filled their show with games directed to the hardcore, they still managed to consume 80% of the show geared to the casual audience. About the hardcore games anyways, despite them showing some really exciting titles I’m really looking forward to playing, but they didn’t have the same flare as previous shows. It’s not like past years when they announce a game and your first reaction is, “I have to play this now!”, this year was more like, “Meh, cool I guess, but I can wait, it’s not really that big of a deal.”

Next is Nintendo whose presentation was mostly about them attracting new audiences, and very lackluster games. Like really, the interview G4 did with Reggie after the show they said that the hardcore audience felt disappointed with this years show, which Reggie replied, “How can you? We’ve got Animal Crossing on the Wii, and GTA: Chinatown Wars on the DS.” I guess Reggie doesn’t understand that games are like an addiction, we constantly need to fill our need for more, and 2 titles don’t really cut the cake. Especially when they’re like B list titles, and not any AAA, blockbuster titles we all tune into E3 to hear about.

Sony, started off good, then after Little Big planet I fell asleep from all the boredom. The last 10minutes were good with God of War III, MAG, and whatever that other title was (I forget from all the boredom), but right at the beginning of the show they said 2008 was the year of software, and like for 1 and half hours they didn’t even talk about software, just some boring stuff, like do they really need to keep publishing for the PS2 anymore?

Anyways, just my thoughts, though I suspect I’m generally losing interest in video games anyways, maybe this is a sign I grow up and move on, I dunno.
